In 2017 and 2018
AFFLIP members and guests gather each year at the Adelaide Pavilion, Veale Gardens to help raise funds to support the Foundation’s flagship programs.
Major sponsors the Clare Valley Winemakers donated the premium wines served in 2017 and auctioned in 2018. Thanks must go to the twenty-five winemakers across the region who generously provided wines from their museum stock and to Executive Officer Tania Matz for all she did to make it happen.
Huge thank you to father and son team of Geoff and Daniel Schell (Ray White Real Estate, Clare Valley) who take on the role of auctioneers for the evening. Funds raised support the five flagship programs in Talomo District.
Twenty-five winemakers from the Clare Valley region donated the premium wines that were consumed on the night.

2016 Consul-General Gala Ball
On February 12, 2016 the Philippine Consul-General Mr Mark McBriarty hosted a Gala Ball in the Ian McLachlan Room at the Adelaide Oval. The proceeds of the evening were donated to AFFLIP.
After pre-dinner drinks, the South Australian Governor, His Excellency Hieu Van Lee, opened the evening and welcomed such distinguished guests as the Minister of Education, Hon Susan Close; the Minister of Multicultural Affairs Zoe Bettison; the shadow Minister for Transport, Mr David Pisoni, AFFLIP’s two Patrons, the Hon Greg Crafter and the Hon Stephen Baker, and the 400 guests of the sell-out event. The MC for the evening was radio personality, Mr Ian Henschke who smoothly supervised a packed schedule, including Philippines dancers, a public auction, a talk by AFFLIP Chairperson Professor Alan Reid, Filipino singer Kissy and the popular band Smoke and Mirrors.
The money raised on the night will make a significant contribution to AFFLIP’s education programs in the Talomo District for the 2016/17 year. We would like to acknowledge and thank the Consul-General for his generous gesture in donating the proceeds to AFFLIP. He continues to be a wonderful support to the Foundation. AFFLIP would also like to acknowledge the sponsorship of the night by the Clare Valley Winemakers Inc. which provided the wonderful wines consumed during the evening. Their support was significant and much appreciated.
Inaugural AFFLIP Lecture
The Hon. Julia Gillard
The AFFLIP inaugural Lecture, presented by the Hon. Julia Gillard, 27th Prime Minister of Australia, was held on Tuesday 25 August, 2015 in the Allan Scott Auditorium, Hawke Centre, University of South Australia. AFFLIP partnered with the Hawke Centre to organise the Lecture. Many AFFLIP members were among the 400 people who attended the Lecture.
2015 Cocktail Party
The 2015 AFFLIP Cocktail Party, held on Friday 13 March 2015, was attended by nearly 200 generous AFFLIP supporters and the money raised on the night will make a significant contribution to sustaining our flagship programs.
AFFLIP and all our stakeholders thank all who continue to support our programs and make a contribution to the educational development of young people in the Talomo District.
2014 Cocktail Party
The second AFFLIP Cocktail Party, held in February 2014, again successfully raised enough funds to support much of the Foundation’s work.
The event was hugely popular with almost 200 people attending.
AFFLIP is supporting a number of important education projects in 15 schools in Mindanao in one of the poorest areas of the Philippines. This year the proceeds from the cocktail party will go towards three projects:
our scholarship program; and
the purchase of agricultural and aquacultural equipment to support school feeding programs, and programs fostering learning through the outdoor environment.
The cruise on the 'Temptation', an 58ft x 32 ft. aluminum high performance sailing catamaran, on Sunday 9th February 2014 was well patronised and indicated the klevel of support enjoyed by AFFLIP. The cruise provided the opportunity for people to meet and discuss AFFLIP matters with members of the Board in a relaxed environment.
The Great Gatsby - a roaring success
The Great Gatsby film fundraiser at the fabulous art deco Capri Cinema in Goodwood was a ‘roaring success’ with an abundance of delicious canapés and variety of great wines – courtesy of Olssens Wines and the Edinburg Hotel. Some of the 180 guests even dressed to the occasion and every-one got into the spirit of things. A special surprise highlight was the Wurlitzer organ to open the show.
Funds from this event alone will provide agricultural equipment for the 15 schools for another year, which is a great achievement. Congratulations to all involved and thanks for your support.
Official AFFLIP Launch
The official launch of AFFLIP was held on February 8th, 2013 at the Pavilion (corner of South Terrace and Peacock Rd, Adelaide, South Australia) with over 300 people in attendance. The highly successful cocktail party was enjoyed by all, many of whom danced the night away to the sounds of the band Smoke and Mirrors.
Master of Ceremonies Mr. Ali Douglas introduced Board Chairman Emeritus Professor Alan Reid, who provided the background of the Foundation, and Mr. Keith Bartley, Chief Executive of the Department of Education and Child Development, South Australia, who officially launched the Foundation.
The silent auction was wonderfully supported, and together with the profits from the tickets and donations, will provide a firm financial base for many of the Foundation's activities in 2013. A huge thank you goes to all those who generously donated items for the auction.
